So I am the London poet for the Public Address 2 Tour. I am going to be doing a long piece that I originally wrote from another Apples and Snakes project, Word’s a Stage. The piece is called The Sum of Your Survival and is about family history, war, relationships and identity.
Here is some feedback I got from a previous performance of this piece to whet your poetry appetites! “So richly textured, past, present, childhoods interwoven … How to make sense of one’s life through that relationship – fear so well conveyed I held my breath.”
“Incredible. Don’t know what else to say right now, hit me deep, need to have a ponder”
“Really well constructed connections between generational differences, childhood memories and cultural identities (and the way these are formed – or changed – over time, or with retrospect). Clever conversational rhythm – really like it. Beautifully well structured – flaskbacks very vivid and emotive.”
Need some more? Here is a video, of me talking about the piece and poetry in general in the run up to the tour.
